Kunshan Tourist Resort is a Jiangsu provincial tourist resort approved in July, 1994. It consists of the four towns—Zhouzhuang, Jinxi, Qiandeng and Dianshan Lake in the south and Bacheng Town of Yangcheng Lake area in the north, covering a planning area of 330 square kilometers. Kunshan Tourist Resort is endowed with abundant tourism resources, including picturesque natural scenery, long history and culture, rich products of the water town and simple local folk customs. There are three notable tourism features in Kunshan: Zhouzhuang—“No. 1 Water Town in China”; Kunqu Opera, a masterpiece of the first batch of human oral and intangible cultural heritage, acclaimed as the “Ancestor of Hundreds of Operas”; and Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs. In recent years, this tourist resort is stepping into a new era of whole domain tourism thanks to the upgrading scenic spots of its ancient towns, its booming rural tourism, relaxing lakeside resort and lively festival activities.
