By the end of 2023, the city boasts 4,484 medical institutions of various types, with 84,000 hospital beds, 112,000 medical staff. The total amount of
diagnosis and treatments completed by medical institutions at all levels reached 105 million person-times.
In 2023, the city has added two Grade 3 hospitals, one Grade 3 A hospital, and four national key specialized departments. The renovated Suzhou Rehabilitation Hospital and Suzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention were both put into use in this year.
Suzhou spearheaded the "diagnosis and treatment before payment" program, realized the simultaneous card settlement for serious illness insurance and medical assistance, and took the lead in the whole country by establishing a "one-click" claim settlement system for commercial medical insurance.
