By virtue of its unique ecological environment, revolutionary history and folk culture, Shajiabang Tourist Resort has developed into a distinctive recreational tourism resort in the Yangtze River Delta area. Shajiabang Tourist Resort covers a total area of 11.37 square kilometers with its land area of 7.78 square kilometers and its water area of 3.59 square kilometers. At present, the scenic area is mainly composed of various distinctive touristic resources in complete functional facilities, including Revolutionary Traditional Education Area, Hongshi Village of Folk Culture, Reed Waterway Maze, National Defense Education Park, Hengjing Old Street, Reed SwampWetland Park, Real Scene Theater, etc. With those resources, the resort has built an industrial chain for recreational tourism by providing different tourist projects, including history and culture appreciation, natural ecology experience, leisure and health-keeping service, and featured festival activities.
Shajiabang Tourist Resort, established upon the approval of Changshu Municipal People's Government in August, 2009, is a sub section level public institution attached to Shajiabang Town People's Government. In August, 2012, it was established upon the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, and in August, 2013 upgraded to a section level public institution with 9 approved members of manning quotas, sharing a management system of the unity of district and town with ShajiabangTown. In accordance with different corresponding responsibilities, the Management Committee of Shajiabang Tourist Resort established two offices—Party and Government Office and Wetland Park Management Office, and three sections—Planning and Construction Section, Tourism Investment Section, and Economic and Social Undertaking Section. Furthermore, this management committee is fully responsible for resort planning and construction, economic development, investment promotion, industry supervision, resource utilization and environmental protection, social affairs and public services, and management and construction of Shajiabang WetlandPark.
