Soochow University takes educational internationalization as one of its major development strategies and has established cooperation relationship with more than 200 universities and institutions around the world, including University of Waterloo , Western University, University of Victoria, University of Manchester, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin – Madison , University of California, Riverside, SKEMA Business School , Cafoscari University of Venice ,University of Sydney , Seoul National University , National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University , etc.
The university is actively involved in international academic and research collaborations. A number of international research platforms have been set up in recent years, including SUN—WIN Joint Institute for Nanotechnology (with University of Waterloo, Canada), Soochow University—Western University Center for Synchrotron Radiation Research (with University of Western, Canada), CAM–SU Genomic Resource Center (with Welcome Trust Sanger Institute of Cambridge University, U.K.).
In 2007, the Confucius Institute at Portland was co-established by Soochow University and Portland State University. It is now one of the largest Confucius Institutions in North America.
The university is also a member of the national “20+20 China-Arica Cooperation Plan” approved by China’s Ministry of Education”.
In 2009, it established “Soochow University in Laos” in Vientiane, Lao PDR, which is the first overseas university set up by a Chinese university.
Over 3000 international students from over 80 countries and regions are enrolled in Soochow University every year before 2020.
