A new station building of Zhangjiagang Railway Station is scheduled to start construction in the first half of the year 2025, which is expected to be completed and put into use simultaneously with the Tongsujiayong High-speed Railway (Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo High-speed Railway) at the end of 2027.
Zhangjiagang Railway Station is an important hub in the nation’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” rail network. In 2024, its annual passenger volume reached 9.255 million, with a record daily passenger flow of 47,000. The station has been seeing an increasing passenger volume since the nation’s new railway operation diagram took effect on Jan. 5, 2025. It handles 177 trains every day, reaching 297 stations in 129 prefecture-level cities of 23 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government).
The new station building on the east side of Zhangjiagang Railway Station will help enhance passenger comfort and better transportation accessibility. After leaving the station via the underpass, passengers can have easy access to public transit including buses, taxis and vehicles engaged in online ride-hailing services. In addition, the station building will offer a spacious underground parking lot with 2,193 parking spots.
With a total construction area of 20,000 square meters, the east station building will have a waiting hall, a comprehensive service center, public toilets, convenience stores and other supporting facilities. It will be connected with the existing west station building by an underpass.
