The 2024 Global Optical Fiber and Cable Conference, or GOFC 2024, was wrapped up in Suzhou on Nov. 8. The two-day conference was attended by nearly 600 people, including experts of research institutions, executives of major telecom operators, and representatives of leading enterprise from more than 30 countries. The attendees had discussions on the theme of “Intelligent Fibers Create Boundless Future”, exchanging views on the future development of the global optical fiber communication industry.
During the conference, experts, tech gurus, and representatives of leading enterprises from home and abroad delivered more than 30 special reports focusing on the application of cutting-edge technologies such as computing power, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, and Internet of Everything in building optical fiber and cable networks and the development trend of the optical fiber industry in the era of intelligent communication.
The Global Optical Fiber and Cable Conference is an annual international conference for the global optical fiber communication industry, which aims to promote the development of the industry, create and maintain a healthy industry ecosystem, promote international business cooperation, and facilitate product R&D, business expansion, and academic exchange in fiber optic communication and related fields.
This year’s conference coincided with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the international standard for G652 single-mode optic fiber which was a milestone for the industry. At the conference, the international standard (version 2.0) for CL fiber was released, which will promote the application of CL fiber in ultra-large capacity optical transmission. A blue book on digitalized ODN solutions was released at the same time. It was compiled by the Asian-Pacific Optical Fiber & Cable Industry Association (the APC Association) and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology after a comprehensive study of the status quo and technical trends of ODN construction, aiming to provide support for the high-quality construction of China’s network infrastructure.
GOFC 2024 was co-hosted by the APC Association and Hengtong Group from Nov. 6 to 8 at the Suzhou International Expo Center. An optical fiber and cable industry exhibition was also held during the conference. Leading enterprises such as Hengtong Group demonstrated their latest products and solutions for optical fiber communication, marine communication, wireless communication, etc. at the exhibition.
